Here’s what an agent will charge to sell your home

What will an agent charge to sell your home?

While agents fees are deregulated, they tend to vary from state to state.

According to an article in The Australian estate agents’ selling commissions are lowest in South Australia and highest in Tasmania which is Australia’s agent housecheapest housing market.

Now I’m not suggesting you chose your selling agent on fees – that makes no sense.

The cheapest agent is the one that gets you the best price and therefore makes you the most money, not the one that charges the lowest commission, but let’s see what the average charge is around Australia

The average commission is:

  • 3 per cent in Tasmanian where an owner would pay $15,000 on a home sold for $500,000.
  • 2.61 per cent in Queensland
  • 2.31 per cent in Western Australia
  • 2.05 per cent in NSW and Victoria
  • 2 per cent in South Australia

Remember real estate agent’s commissions are now deregulated and are negotiable, but would you want someone who readily negotiates their income to work for you and negotiate on your behalf?
