The Ins and Outs of Population Growth

One minute read. 28856067 - australia high resolution population concept

Everyone is moving to Tassie.

Well, that’s the talk on the street.

But is it true?

Interstate migration – like most things – consists of ins and outs.

People always depart and others arrive.

When the arrivals exceed the departures, then the net result is positive.

Reverse the trend for a negative outcome.

The table below outlines interstate arrivals, departures and the net result for last year.

MMNEW

Whilst 11,386 people arrived from interstate to Tasmania, some 11,344 people left.

So of the 366,000-odd interstate population movements last year, just 42 interstate migrants called Tassie home.

At least it was a better result – depending, of course, on who you ask – than last year, where some 528 folks left Tasmania for the mainland.

Sometimes the talk on the street, is well, just talk.
