Covid has shaken up the rankings of the Economist’s annual survey of the world’s most liveable cities.
This year Auckland tops the list – a place held by Melbourne for 7 years in a row until it lost its title to Vienna in 2018 and was in second place last time the list was compiled in 2019
This year Adelaide stole the show, ranking as the third most liveable city in the world for 2021.
Overall Australia has again fared well with six of the top ten cities being located in New Zealand or Australia, where tight border controls have allowed residents to live relatively normal lives.
And Sydney just missed the top 10 list coming in at #11.
Affordability is not measured.
However, the list does not take affordability into account, with house prices in both Australia and New Zealand reaching all time highs.
The average house price in Auckland is $1,219,183, up 16.5 per cent in a year according to Corelogic
Wellington, NZ’s capital, is up 27.2 per cent to $1,001,732, the most rapid growth of all major Kiwi cities.
